Master of Indigenous Social Work (MISW) Program Granted Four-year Reaccreditation

The Commission on Accreditation (COA), Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE), has granted the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv), Master of Indigenous Social Work (MISW) Program with the reaccreditation of a four-year term, with conditions. The period extends from February 1, 2021, to January 31, 2025.

The Master of Indigenous Social Work (MISW) Program was first accredited in January 2008 as a four-year term with continuous years as a one-year and a two-year term. Upon the latest review of the progress report, FNUniv had met the accreditation standards with two conditions to be addressed during the term. With the subsequent four-year reaccreditation, it will bring the MISW Program to the maximum eight-year length.

Since the Master of Indigenous Social Work (MISW) Program began, FNUniv has awarded degrees to 21 recipients, from Spring 2015 – Fall 2019. The program aims to prepare students as clinical practitioners, specifically skilled in First Nations approaches to therapy and sensitive to First Nations and Métis communities’ issues. Although the Indigenous Social Work (ISW) program is offered throughout all campuses, the MISW is based at the Saskatoon Campus.
