Two INCA alums have received funding to offer a pre-INCA “crash course” training program to 15 youth (15-29), from Monday, April 15 to Saturday, March 20–the week leading up to, and the first day of, the FNUniv Powwow.
Jaida Beaudin-Herney and Brittany Boschman completed the Summer Institute—a six-week crash course, in 2016. Jaida graduated with a BA in Political Science and Brittany completed her Indigenous Studies degree, as well as the INCA Diploma program.
The training will be offered at First Nations University of Canada in the INCA classroom 2005 and the www.CFNUradio.ca studios.
The training will include an intro to journalism, studio and field recording, research, interviewing, writing for the ear, performance, producing promos and commercials for sponsors, audio editing and working as a team to produce a show.
Students will attend the Pipe Ceremony and Feast for the Powwow on Friday, March 19 and will work as associate producers (APs) for the live broadcast of the first Grand Entry of the FNUniv Spring Powwow on Saturday, April 20.
No experience is required—just an interest in learning about journalism and broadcasting. INCA students and alums will be there to mentor and support the trainees. And there are some great prizes for participants who have 100 per cent attendance and 1,000 per cent enthusiasm.
