CNFU Radio Reaches Listeners from Across the World

May 31, 2024

Having the opportunity to attend a language conference provides a new experience. Hearing the language and listening to the fluency among the attendees can enliven the spirit within you to delve further into learning your language. What about the individuals who cannot attend in person? What is the other option to be a part of it?

CFNU Radio partnered with Whitecap Dakota Nation to live stream the 6th Annual Oćeti Śakowin – Iapi Wakan Ayuwankan Eunhnakapi, Promoting the Spirit of our Language conference. This event was held on May 22 & 23, 2024, at the Dakota Dunes Resort on the Whitecap Dakota Nation, SK.

Wapáha Ska Dakota Oyáte, Whitecap Dakota Nation, supports the Dakota Language Conference. The conference targets speakers, learners, and knowledge keepers in Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota Oyate. Language (Iapi) is integral to the preservation and revitalization of the rich culture of the Oćeti Śakowin, the seven tribes with sub-tribes that represent the Great Dakota-Nakota-Lakota Nations.

During the live stream, keynote speakers such as Chief Arvol Looking Horse, 19th Generation keeper of the White Buffalo Calf Woman Pipe Bundle, Harold Blacksmith, Vanessa Good Thunder and Iris Wowasi McKay shared additional information with the listeners. This diverse audience included listeners from as far as Minnesota, Germany and South Dakota, and as close as Regina, Carry the Kettle, Standing Buffalo and Sioux Valley, MB.

Lindell Haywahe (Dakota-Nakota), Amanda Leader (Dakota-Nakota), and producer Will Yuzicapi (Dakota-Cree) hosted CFNU Radio and Pikiskwewin.

CFNUradio.ca and pikiskwewin.ca feature all the Oćeti Śakowin – Iapi Wakan Ayuwankan Eunhnakapi, Promoting the Spirit of our Language conference live stream recordings, presentations, and interviews on the websites In Demand and Iapi Wakan sections.
