FNUniv Honours the Recipients of the 2023 Long Service Awards

November 29, 2024

On Friday, November 22nd, 2024, the recipients of the 2023 Long Service Awards came together to honour their significant milestones with the First Nations University of Canada. The event commenced with welcoming remarks from President Dr. Jacqueline Ottmann and Chair of the Board of Governors Sherry Saevil. Knowledge Keeper Dennis Omeasoo led a prayer for all attendees, followed by a delightful dinner reception. After the meal, the program proceeded with the presentation of the awards.

As each recipient was called upon to receive their gift, the expression of pride was felt in the atmosphere, as well as warm applause, heartfelt congratulations, and camaraderie, as colleagues, family, and friends celebrated the dedication and service of these remarkable individuals. Their stories of perseverance, growth, and community impact were shared throughout the evening, highlighting each awardee’s invaluable contributions over the years.

The evening continued with inspiring speeches from two recipients of the 30-year long-service award, who reminisced about their journeys and the changes they had witnessed within the institution. Their words served as both a reflection of the past and a beacon of hope for the future, reminding everyone of the importance of commitment and the strength of the community.

As the event drew to a close, Aaron Tootoosis sang an honour song to complete the recognition and acknowledgement of each recipient. It was an evening of joy and gratitude, honouring the individuals and the spirit of unity and support that defines the First Nations University of Canada.
