Empowering Indigenous Voices: Youth Dive into Journalism and Broadcasting Course

April 22, 2024

Fifteen Indigenous youth participated in the inaugural INCA-CFNU Crash Course in Journalism and Broadcasting, held from April 15 to April 20, culminating in a live five-hour broadcast from the FNUniv Spring Powwow 2024.

The program, conceived by INCA alumni Jaida Beaudin and Brittany Boschman, aimed to introduce youth to journalism and broadcasting. Both Beaudin and Boschman, who graduated from the INCA program, wanted to give back by providing an entry-level experience in the field. Beaudin, now a policy analyst, and Boschman, a communication consultant, secured funding for this initiative, which included hands-on training in various aspects of media production.

The event featured live broadcasts, cultural activities, and mentorship from seasoned broadcasters like William Yuzicapi and producer Lindell Haywahe, emphasizing the significance of Indigenous perspectives in media.
